Larsen & Toubro (L&T) <\/a>has been awarded a 1.51 billion Saudi riyal ($403.8 million) contract by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)<\/a> to construct a key section of a 500kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will link the PP14 power plant in Riyadh to the coastal region of Kudmi in southwestern Saudi Arabia<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract is awarded on a lump-sum turnkey basis and is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Saudi Arabia\u2019s power infrastructure<\/a> and enable better integration of renewable energy into the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HVDC line is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the Kingdom\u2019s ambitious energy diversification goals under Vision 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 500kV HVDC transmission project is divided into three sections, with L&T securing one segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other two sections have been awarded to Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and Saudi Services for Electro Mechanic Works (SSEM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L&T, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, has been a major player in the power transmission and distribution (PT&D) sector, and has recently secured large-scale projects across the GCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September, the company announced \u201cmega\u201d contracts in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. As part of its Saudi operations, L&T\u2019s PT&D vertical is working on \u00b1500kV HVDC transmission links that aim to enhance the interconnection of the Kingdom\u2019s national electricity network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These projects are critical to integrating renewable energy generation and strengthening grid resilience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

L&T has also secured three additional packages in Saudi Arabia involving two 380kV overhead transmission lines and a bulk supply 380kV gas-insulated substation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company stated that these projects would significantly improve the Kingdom\u2019s grid capacity and support its transition to a more sustainable energy mix. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the UAE, L&T is building two major 400kV gas-insulated substations in Abu Dhabi. The scope of work includes advanced features such as current-limiting reactors, auto transformers, substation monitoring, fault detection systems, and integration with the load dispatch center. These upgrades are expected to enhance the power transfer capacity of the UAE\u2019s grid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

L&T has been steadily expanding its presence in the GCC region, focusing on power infrastructure projects that align with the region\u2019s vision for renewable energy adoption and energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
