QatarEnergy<\/a> has laid the foundation for the world\u2019s largest blue ammonia<\/a> plant in Mesaieed Industrial City, as part of the country\u2019s wider push for clean energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an estimated investment of QAR 4.4 billion ($1 billion), the plant is set to become a key part of QatarEnergy\u2019s efforts to diversify its energy offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located in the strategically positioned Mesaieed Industrial City, the facility will benefit from integrated infrastructure and a major port that is one of the Middle East\u2019s largest petrochemical export hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blue ammonia plant, expected to start production by the second quarter of 2026, will have the capacity to produce 1.2 million tons of ammonia annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will also feature a CO2 injection and storage unit capable of handling 1.5 million tons per year. QatarEnergy plans to power the plant with over 35 megawatts of electricity sourced from a solar power plant currently under construction in Mesaieed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saad Al-Kaabi, Qatar\u2019s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, pointed out the project\u2019s role in advancing the global push for low-carbon products. “This plant will help reduce carbon emissions globally by providing a reliable source of low-carbon ammonia, further aligning Qatar with international sustainability goals,\u201d Al-Kaabi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plant will be built in collaboration with Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) and is expected to use QatarEnergy\u2019s in-house expertise in the construction and operation of ammonia facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al-Kaabi also noted that the blue ammonia facility is part of QatarEnergy\u2019s broader expansion strategy, which includes major investments in LNG, oil and gas exploration, petrochemicals, fertilizers, and solar energy projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project consortium, including ThyssenKrupp and Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), received praise for their efforts in bringing the plant to fruition. Minister Al-Kaabi concluded by thanking Qatar\u2019s leadership, including His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, for their continued support of the energy sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
