Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)<\/a> has announced major progress on its $79 million (AED 290 million) water reservoir project in Hassyan<\/a>, with 82% of the construction now complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 120-million-gallon reservoir is on track for completion by the first quarter of 2025 and is a key component of DEWA’s strategy to secure sustainable water supplies for Dubai’s growing population and economic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ensuring energy and water security is a critical pillar of Dubai\u2019s development,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This project, alongside the reservoirs recently commissioned in Al Lusaily, Enkhali, and Hatta, will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the water network while increasing reserves to meet growing demand. Upon completion, Dubai\u2019s total water storage capacity will rise to 1.121 billion gallons of desalinated water.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hassyan reservoir has been designed and implemented to meet the highest international standards, according to Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President of Water and Civil at DEWA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed the project’s role in improving Dubai\u2019s water network reliability and providing flexibility to manage increasing demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reservoir aligns with DEWA\u2019s broader infrastructure initiatives aimed at achieving the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, which focuses on ensuring sustainable water resources for the nation\u2019s economic and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hassyan project also forms part of Dubai\u2019s broader commitment to adopting advanced solutions to maintain water security amidst rapid urbanization and increasing resource needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
