CarbonCure Technologies<\/a>, a leader in carbon utilisation for the concrete industry, has announced a pioneering agreement with Abdullah Abdin, a Saudi construction materials producer, and Gulf Cryo<\/a>, a Carbon-as-a-Service (CaaS) and industrial gas solutions provider, to integrate cutting-edge carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology into NEOM<\/a>\u2019s construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration was formalised under the Saudi Ministry of Energy\u2019s support for sustainable building materials and aims to deliver low-carbon concrete adhering to Circular Carbon Economy principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It builds on an earlier memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Ministry and NEOM\u2019s developers in January, which demonstrates Saudi Arabia\u2019s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in its infrastructural development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CarbonCure\u2019s technology injects captured carbon dioxide<\/a> (CO\u2082) into concrete during production, where it mineralises permanently, even if the material is later demolished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This innovation not only reduces the embodied carbon of concrete but also preserves its compressive strength, enabling producers to reduce the use of carbon-intensive cement without compromising quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis agreement demonstrates Saudi Arabia\u2019s leadership in sustainable construction. By integrating our technology at Abdullah Abdin\u2019s facilities, supported by Gulf Cryo\u2019s CO\u2082 capture systems, we are showing how the Kingdom can lead the global transition toward green building materials,\u201d said Robert Niven, CEO of CarbonCure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEOM, the futuristic city in northwest Saudi Arabia, is at the heart of Saudi Vision 2030, which stresses sustainability and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gulf Cryo\u2019s Chief Commercial Officer, Georgios Beretsos, noted the project\u2019s transformative potential: \u201cThis collaboration underscores the power of innovation and partnerships in advancing decarbonisation and localisation goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
