AMEA Power<\/a> has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Land Agreement for a new 500-megawatt (MW) wind energy project in Egypt<\/a> as part of its commitment to renewable energy development in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreements were finalized in December 2024, coinciding with the inauguration of the company\u2019s 500MW Abydos Solar<\/a> PV Plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing ceremony, held in Egypt, was attended by prominent government officials, including Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat; and Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania A. Al-Mashat. AMEA Power Chairman Hussain Al Nowais was also present to mark the milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engineer Mona Rezk Ibrahim Mohamed, Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), signed the PPA, while the Land Agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Mostafa El-Khayat, Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), and AMEA Power\u2019s Chief Investment Officer, Aqueel Bohra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This latest project brings AMEA Power\u2019s total portfolio of solar and wind energy projects in Egypt to 2,500MW, including 2,400MWh of battery energy storage. The company\u2019s growing footprint aligns with Egypt\u2019s strategy to diversify its energy mix and increase reliance on renewable resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Abydos Solar PV Plant, also with a capacity of 500MW, was inaugurated as part of Egypt\u2019s broader efforts to scale up renewable energy projects and reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMEA Power\u2019s investments contribute to Egypt\u2019s ambitious renewable energy targets, which aim to generate 42% of the country\u2019s electricity from renewable sources by 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company announced last week that its 500MW Amunet Wind Project had achieved another key milestone as all 77 wind turbines, with an individual capacity of 6.5MW, had successfully been installed, whilst more than 90% of the project has been completed.

With commercial operations expected to commence by Q2 2025, the wind project will offset more than 1.4 million tons of CO2 and power approximately 500,000 households.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
