{"id":1317,"date":"2025-02-13T13:59:55","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T09:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/?p=1317"},"modified":"2025-02-13T13:59:55","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T09:59:55","slug":"uaes-ewec-issues-rfp-for-140mw-al-sila-wind-power-project-in-abu-dhabi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cheeltech.com\/utilitybusinessmena\/electricity\/uaes-ewec-issues-rfp-for-140mw-al-sila-wind-power-project-in-abu-dhabi","title":{"rendered":"UAE\u2019s EWEC issues RFP for 140MW Al Sila wind power project in Abu Dhabi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/renewable-energy\/emirates-water-and-electricity-company-ewec-invites-bids-for-1-5gw-zarraf-solar-project\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"419\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC)<\/a> has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of the Al Sila Wind Independent Power Project, a 140-megawatt (MW) wind farm set to double Abu Dhabi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/renewable-energy\/al-yamamah-to-lead-saudi-arabias-push-into-wind-energy-manufacturing\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"784\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wind energy<\/a> capacity to approximately 240MW upon completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, located near the existing Al Sila wind farm, will generate enough renewable electricity to power 36,000 homes annually while offsetting 190,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project is a significant milestone in diversifying the UAE\u2019s energy mix and reinforces Abu Dhabi\u2019s position as a regional leader in renewable energy,\u201d said Mohamed Al Marzooqi, EWEC\u2019s Chief Asset Development &amp; Management Officer. \u201cWith an expected increase in wind capacity to 2.6 gigawatts by 2035, we are setting a global benchmark in sustainable energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sixteen pre-qualified companies and consortiums, shortlisted after the Expression of Interest stage in October 2024, have been invited to submit proposals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will encompass development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance, with the successful bidder owning up to 40% of the entity. The Abu Dhabi Government will hold the remaining equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A long-term Power Purchase Agreement with EWEC, Abu Dhabi\u2019s sole buyer of power and water, will ensure payment based on net electricity supplied.
