The Saudi consortium of ACWA Power<\/a>, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Partners Company<\/a> and AlKifah Holding, has been appointed as the preferred bidder for the 300,000 cubic metres per day (m3\/day) Ras Mohaisen Independent Water Plant (IWP) project<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spanish infrastructure company Acciona has been appointed as the reserve bidder for the IWP project located 300km south of Makkah on the Red Sea coast in the Western Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made by Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC)<\/a>, the principal off-taker for water and wastewater projects in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2024, SWPC had announced that it received two bids for the IWP project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notice didn\u2019t disclose the levelised tariffs but stated the desalination project, based on sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology, will be developed in two phases: Phase 1 will have a capacity of 100,000 m3\/day while Phase 2 will have a capacity of 200,000 m3\/day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scope of the project also includes storage tanks with a capacity of 600,000 m3, equivalent to two operating days, an electrical substation facility and 17km power transmission line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will serve one million people across the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha. It will also be linked to Ras Mohaisen \u2013 Baha \u2013Makkah Water Transmission Pipeline and Hali Dam Water Transmission Pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWPC had previously stated that the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project is expected to be in the second quarter of 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Request for Proposals (RFP) for Ras Mohaisen IWP was issued in December 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWPC announced last month the receipt of bidder proposal for the potential development of Jubail 4 & 6 Independent Water Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A consortium of Acwa Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co. and AlSharif Contracting and Commercial Development submitted the bid proposal for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jubail 4&6 IWP will produce 600,000 cu m\/day of potable water and will also incorporate an electrical substation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year in September, SWPC had announced that nine leading utility developers, including two in consortiums, had qualified for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These include: Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa); Acciona Agua; Saudi developer Acwa Power; GS Inima; International Power (Engie); Marubeni Corporation Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) as well as consortiums of Ajlan & Bros and Rawafid Industrial Company and that of Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company and Sogex Oman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWPC said it will conduct a competitive tender process to select a private sector developer\/developer consortium that will be responsible for the funding, construction, procurement, implementation, operation and maintenance of the project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
