{"id":853,"date":"2024-11-03T08:05:07","date_gmt":"2024-11-03T04:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/?p=853"},"modified":"2024-11-03T08:05:07","modified_gmt":"2024-11-03T04:05:07","slug":"scatec-expands-in-north-africa-with-new-solar-and-hydrogen-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cheeltech.com\/utilitybusinessmena\/news\/scatec-expands-in-north-africa-with-new-solar-and-hydrogen-projects","title":{"rendered":"Scatec expands in North Africa with new solar and hydrogen projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Norwegian developer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/renewable-energy\/john-cockerill-scatec-and-technip-energies-lead-900m-green-ammonia-and-electrolyzer-projects-in-egypt\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"599\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scatec<\/a> is increasing its presence in North Africa through new solar and green hydrogen ventures in Egypt and Tunisia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting Egypt as a key growth market, Scatec is focusing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/solar\/trinasolar-to-showcase-integrated-solar-and-storage-solutions\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"605\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">solar<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitybusinessmena.com\/renewable-energy\/scatec-inks-ppa-for-egypt-solar-bess\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"171\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">battery storage<\/a> as part of a strategic shift, with plans to invest heavily across its core markets, including Brazil, South Africa, and the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Egypt, Scatec recently signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company to develop a 1.1-gigawatt (GW) solar power facility, accompanied by a 100-megawatt (MW) battery storage system. This project will support Egypt\u2019s renewable energy ambitions as it aims to expand its green capacity from 7 GW to 38 GW by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scatec\u2019s Egypt Green Hydrogen subsidiary secured a 20-year ammonia offtake agreement with Fertiglobe for its planned 100 MW electrolyzer plant, powered by 260 MW of solar and wind sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Tunisia, Scatec, alongside Toyota Tsusho Group, began constructing 120 MW of solar capacity at Tozeur and Sidi Bouzid. Backed by a 20-year PPA with a 10-year extension option, this $88 million project will contribute to Tunisia\u2019s clean energy goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scatec will implement an &#8220;equity-last&#8221; financing structure for both the Egyptian and Tunisian projects, enabling the firm to optimize cash flows and defer capital outlays until later stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Q3 2024, Scatec reported a substantial year-on-year revenue increase to NOK 2.4 billion ($216 million), driven by new projects and increased production.
